The Unprocessed Pantry is a celebration of seasonal, homemade and down-to-earth food!

For me there is no way around it, a healthy lifestyle definitely starts in the kitchen! My belief is that if you nourish your body with seasonal fruit and veggies you are well on your way to achieving good health.

I love to eat foods which I have made from scratch myself and don't contain preservatives, additives and artificial ingredients. After living in Italy for the past year this has been further affirmed for me by meeting nonna's and zia's who make all their food, preserve extra food and who also grow their own food.

It is also my belief that eating this way does not need to be expensive with fancy kitchen equipment and ‘superfoods’. Just everyday basic kitchen items and food that can be bought from your local market or greengrocer.

I don’t follow any particular diet, however I do believe in a healthy lifestyle involving unprocessed, homemade food, movement and nourishing the soul.

Hence my food philosophy below:

I love to eat lots of fresh, seasonal fruit and veggies. My meals are always based around what vegetables I have in my fridge. I truly believe nothing tastes better than when you have cooked it yourself! So I love to bake my own bread and sweet treats! I absolutely believe life should be lived in balance so I eat what makes me feel good and I don't restrict myself to anything.

I love to cook and be creative in the kitchen and you can find all my healthy recipes here.

Having a healthy lifestyle isn’t just about the food you eat, its also important to be active. Getting movement into your day should be a top priority! This is because it is good for you physically (its good for muscle tone, bone density, cardiovascular health, the list goes on!) as well as mentally (reduces stress and anxiety, produces endorphins to make you feel good). The most important thing I find however is to do something you enjoy, whether it be walking, dancing, yoga, or running, that way it doesn't feel like you are doing exercise.

For me personally I love getting outside into the fresh air, whether it be going for a walk or a slow jog. Also I do basic toning exercises which can be done either outside or in your own home. I don't have a gym membership, rather I have a yoga mat and some hand weights where I can do a few exercises in my own home.

Make Time for Yourself

This is so crucial for your general health and wellbeing. Give yourself some time to unwind, destress and respect your body. Even if it is only for 10 minutes per day, it will allow you to reenergise and just be.

So what I like to do, just before I go to bed, I turn everything off (TV, phone, radio) and just sit and pause. This allows me to relax, listen to my body and unwind. You can also do this just as you get home from work or in the mornings before the days starts.

This is something I recommend to schedule in every day and you will notice all the anxiety and stress fading away.

Love your Body

Every person I know, including me, has their hang ups about their body. However accepting that your body is beautiful and truly loving it, is honestly the most important thing. Your body is the most perfectly designed machine and we should appreciate, care and love it for every little thing it does to sustain our life.

Thus if you treat your body with love, respect and care you will find that it will heal itself and give back to you the health and vitality you are looking for.
